Stories of Sheffield is our ongoing commitment to the artists who shape our city.
Every quarter, we’re introducing a new independent artist and giving their work a home in our snug area upstairs at Cutlery Works. Our space is a place where their craft can be seen, felt and celebrated.
Their artwork stays with us for the season, accompanied by the stories behind each piece: the influences, the lived experiences, the cultural threads that make their work unique.
When the quarter ends, a new chapter begins. Another artist, with another perspective, will be celebrated next.
This series is our way of championing independent talent, amplifying local voices and making creativity part of everyday life.
First up is Jenson Barber - 4th September 6pm-8pm
First up is @jensonbarberart, whose pencil drawings explore landscapes, memories and the places that inspire him, from the Peak District to Kelham Island. He will also be showcasing a collection inspired by the Peak District, as well as a new collection inspired by Kelham Island, where he has challenged himself with a slightly different style (but still using coloured pencils).
Each piece will be available to buy on the night, and £2 from every sale will go directly to supporting the Blend Culinary Foundation.
Jenson's Story
Originally starting out as a graphic designer, Jenson discovered his love of pencil drawing whilst travelling through Australia, choosing a pencil as the smallest creative tool he could take with him. He began drawing the landscapes around him, using them to capture memories of his travels. On returning home, he continued drawing the Peak District, creating increasingly ambitious pieces. His latest collection brings together these landscape drawings with a new series inspired by Kelham Island, exploring the character, textures and iconic identity of Sheffield.

His artwork will be displayed upstairs in our snug area. Our snug offers a quieter, more curated corner of Cutlery Works that’s designed to spotlight local creators.
