In 2020, Elly Joy is teaming up with an array of guests to bring you a series of fabulous events, focusing on health, wellbeing, nutrition & fitness.
Our first event in January will be hosted with Rachel Evans from Healthy & Psyched, and Luke Hall from LH Nutrition. It will take place upstairs at Cutlery Works, in Pop bar.
Rachel’s Healthy & Psyched blog began in in 2015 with the aim of making health and well-being accessible to everyone, from health-nuts to people who are curious or even intimidated by plant-based living. It includes healthy ingredient swaps, workouts or anything else related to physical or mental health. Rachel is currently studying a PhD in the psychology of behaviour change and hopes that this event will help you discover the physical and mental health benefits of eating more mindfully and practice eating with awareness.
LH Nutrition, an evidence based nutrition consultancy business, was founded in 2018. Since then Luke has continued to develop himself and his knowledge-base, constantly educating himself and others on the importance of good nutrition and how this can positively influence our lives.
This session will have individual segments run by Rachel & Luke, with joint discussion, too.
Luke from LH Nutrition will kick us off by taking a deep dive into the science behind nutrition; we’ll cover everything from calories to micronutrients. We’ll look at what exactly is in the food we eat and how our body puts this to use (for better or for worse) before touching on how to use this knowledge to optimise our performance in all your endeavours. This will give you a solid knowledge base before Rachel takes us into the world of mindful eating and tackles the psychology of it all and developing a healthy relationship with food.
Elly Joy will be providing delicious Bird & Blend teas on arrival and throughout, plus a snack during Rachel’s session (please advise us of allergies as many products contain nuts). Guests also have the option to book a ticket that includes a beautiful plant-based, gluten free, brunch item from Elly Joy, to be enjoyed after the session during a Q&A.

Foundry will be a Carbon Neutral company by the end of 2021. We have just this week established our carbon footprint following a project that we have been working on for the past few months in conjunction with the University of Sheffield who provided a paid intern to help us.
We are now looking at the best ways of offsetting our emissions, which is likely to be a combination of funding some carbon reducing activities locally and in one of the coffee producing countries that we buy out beans from. We’re off to Manchester Coffee Festival (https://www.cupnorth.co.uk/talks-2021) at the beginning of November to talk about how we went about this work and we’re hoping to inspire other small businesses to do the same.
We’re about to enter our third year as a ‘Real Living Wage’ employer. https://www.livingwage.org.uk/what-real-living-wage The real living wage is calculated every year as the minimum hourly rate that a person needs to live properly. Although being aligned with this scheme costs the business more, it also allows us to recruit and retain the best people.
