Sheffield firm creates history by making 23 carat gold chocolate bars for The Royal Mint

An award-winning Sheffield company has made history by helping The Royal Mint to produce its first ever chocolate bars containing real gold.

Bullion Craft Chocolate, which creates luxury treats from cocoa beans at its factory in Neepsend, has teamed up with the Government-owned coin supplier to offer a luxury gift box that features three bars of chocolate decorated with 23 carat edible gold leaf.

Chocolate, The Royal Mint said, has been ‘a symbol of luxury and wealth throughout its history’ – and the new range takes this idea ‘one step further’.

“The cacao beans are selected in Santo Domingo, in the heart of Ecuador, and only the finest beans are chosen for our bars,” said the mint. “Once in the UK, the beans are roasted, cracked, winnowed, refined, conched, aged, tempered, moulded, and finally enclosed in stylish packaging.”

“The tasting notes of the fine dark chocolate bar are a gorgeous blend of hazelnut, caramel, and dried fig, for those with a taste for the finer things,” said The Royal Mint.

“If you have a sweeter tooth, then the fine milk chocolate bar with its roasted nuts, butterscotch and vanilla notes is just right for you.”
