After graduating from Shanghai Conservatory of Music, she was appointed full-time lecturer in Music at the Department of Music, Xiamen University. She came to Sheffield in 2005 to pursue postgraduate study. She is now an honorary research fellow at the Department of Music, University of Sheffield and a teaching affiliate at the Department of Music, University of Nottingham.
